PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Tis Spring! Thanks for all your support of the Homeowners Association. If you have a storm sewer grate on your lot please clean it off so the water can drain away. The "No Solicitation" signs are at every entrance to Hill Valley so if you see any solicitors or they come to your house, call the Marion County Sheriff, 327-3811. Be alert and aware of the rowdies that we have either living here or passing through. We will keep you up to date on the web site. Please note the annual Crime Watch meeting later this month.

Sincerely, Steve

BEAUTIFICATION AWARDS

The Hill Valley Homeowners Association is pleased to announce a new program of Beautification Awards for our Members, complementing our Christmas Decorations Contest, as a way to continue promoting the beautification of our neighborhoods. We hope to make this an annual event.

Spring – The focus will be on bulb flowers and early-blooming shrubs and trees, along with your evergreens. Judging will be the 13th to the 16th of April. We will take photographs if permitted.

Summer – The focus will be on summer flowers and shrubs. Judging will be the last week of June.

Fall – The focus will be on your prized maples, oaks and sweet gum trees, autumn flowers and shrubs. Judging will be in late September or early October.

Board members will act as judges and will be looking for overall "eye appeal" for each season so any Member’s lawnscape can win. If you have one of those nice back yard gardens you’d like to show us, contact a board member so we know to visit you. Do the same if you want to recommend one of your neighbors. All suggestions are welcome.

First, second and third prizes will be awarded for East and West Hill Valley for each of the three seasons. Winners will be publicly recognized and receive trophies and gift certificates.

2006 CRIME WATCH MEETING

This year’s meeting will be on April 25, 2006 at 7:00 pm at the Frieden’s Church. The guest speaker will be from the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office. All residents of East and West Hill Valley Estates are invited to enjoy the meeting and some refreshments.

ALERTS

To keep you posted on serious situations or issues we have implemented an Alerts page on the HVHOA web site. Currently we have warnings about theft from mailboxes in broad daylight, loose dogs, a lost cat and vandalism. Please call or e-mail the webmaster, Don Smith, 865-7761 or info@hillvalley.org about any situation that you believe needs to be shared with your neighbors. Please be aware that there have been acts of very destructive vandalism and theft from automobiles in West Hill Valley as well as continuing "yard jobs" by nighttime vandals. MCSD is providing extra patrols as we alert them but we have no leads on whether these are residents or rowdies passing through. Any information would be helpful. Please call the Marion County Sheriff on ALL incidents, 327-3811, so we can have extra patrols.

AIR CONDITIONER THEFTS

IPD reports a large number of thefts of the coils from outdoor condensers. The thieves are dismantling the units to remove any copper or aluminum that might be inside. Please call 911 immediately if you see anyone tampering with an outside Air Conditioner unit. Do not approach the person. Stay on the line with the dispatcher and provide all the information you can.

NEIGHBORS HELPING NEIGHBORS

On Meadowridge Lane a renter moved out and left a driveway full of boxes of trash even after a dumpster was delivered. The trash became soaked and windblown. A neighbor decided to fill the dumpster with what she could lift by herself. She then went shopping and when she returned, other neighbors had finished filling the dumpster. She would like to thank all the neighbors who pitched in to assist in the cleanup. It was a great thing to see happen!

ENERGY CONSERVATION

One of our members, Tom Probasco, asks us to consider some energy and pollution saving actions. Many of us leave our cars idle for long periods – warming up, waiting for others, waiting in drive-up lanes. This uses up expensive fuel and adds to the overall pollution of our air. Modern cars do not benefit from idling versus frequent starting and do not require a long time to warm up. Some simple changes of habit would go a long way toward fuel savings and cleaner air – turning off the engine and parking instead of using drive-up windows.
