PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Fellow Residents. It’s springtime again and time to pick up and clean up our property to make it appealing after the hard winter. Please ask your neighbors if they have paid their dues. We had a very hard winter for expenses due to the huge snowplowing challenge in February. We may have to raise the dues a bit but we sure don’t want to. Thanks to all of you who have already paid your dues for 2009. Sincerely, Steve

2009 MEMBERSHIP

We invite all residents, owners or renters, to join the Hill Valley Homeowners Association for the new year. Among voluntary homeowners’ associations we are highly respected as one of the largest and most effective in Central Indiana. Please help us stay that way. At this point we have 503 members for 2009. On the insert page is a coupon to be returned with your payment in the enclosed envelope.

NEIGHBORS HELPING NEIGHBORS

We have a new family at 909 Lackawanna Court who need some assistance from their neighbors if possible. The children are disabled with multiple sclerosis and could use the following:

Information on handicapped transportation to a local church, curtains for the windows, someone to mow the grass, a sofa and maybe an extra chair. Please contact Naomi Gard at 300-1963 if you can provide any of these items.

Your Board could use some help, too. We need at least one person to look over the Treasurer’s computerized books for last year to satisfy our requirement for an independent review. We also have a request for information from our beginnings – what was the source of the names for Laura Lynne Lane and Linda Leigh Drive?

As we get more rain, please help your neighbors by cleaning debris off the storm drains near your house. Clogged drains can cause flooding in your basement.

Please keep your dogs leashed and commercial trailers and vans parked somewhere else. These violations are not considerate of your neighbors and are being reported to the code enforcement office.

ALERTS

We have an Alerts page on our website to give you quick information on issues such as safety, zoning and lost pets. Please check it often. For example, we have had reports of a red fox in East Hill Valley and a coyote in West Hill Valley. That might explain the number of missing small pets in our area. If you spot these animals please contact the Mayor’s Action Center right away, 327-4622.

The house at 8819 Meadow Ridge Lane is unoccupied with an in-ground pool and a fence that has fallen down. We have reported it to the city safety officials but be sure to keep an eye on children in the vicinity. They could get hurt before it gets fixed.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Board members were invited to several meetings with city officials to hear about issues facing our neighborhoods. The insert page has a report on one of these meetings. Artistic graffiti has come to the southside and neighborhood youths could be involved. It is called tagging by the artists and both teenagers and adults are involved, trying to make a name for themselves with this new "public" art form. It is not pornographic or abusive but it can cause damage to the walls depending on the paint used. If you see this being done please call 911 immediately and describe the people involved. Some physical characteristics of a tagger are shown on the enclosed flyer.

NEW RESIDENTS

We have noticed many new residents moving into our neighborhood. We have contact information on some of you but it is very incomplete and we know you do not like to receive mail addressed to "Current Resident". Please contact Charlie Eldridge, 881-2718, or Joan Smith, 865-7761, with the best way for us to address your Newsletter and provide you with a resource guide on the neighborhood.

There are 1100 homes in Hill Valley. Our Homeowners Association provides snow plowing and a quarterly Newsletter to inform everyone what is coming up next, including zoning bulletins. We have an annual picnic for all members that includes a full meal, recreation for the children, and dancing for everybody. We have a website, www.hillvalley.org, where you can find a map of the neighborhood, a monthly calendar, special events and announcements, past Newsletters, and important area phone numbers; and, alerts on new issues and an e-mail link to notify us of any problems or neighborhood news.

AREA BEAUTIFICATION

In 2009 the HVHA Board will continue the spring, summer and fall lawnscaping contest for our members, complementing our Christmas Decorations Contest, as a way to continue promoting the beautification of our neighborhoods. In the spring the focus will be on bulb flowers and early-blooming shrubs and trees, along with your evergreens. Judging will be in late April or early May. In the summer the focus will be on summer flowers and shrubs. Judging will be late June or early July. Fall flowers and shrubs will be judged in late September or October. We had good weather for both the spring and summer but last year the weather conspired to scuttle our fall judging. First, second and third prizes will be awarded for East and West Hill Valley for each of the seasons. Winners will be recognized on the web site and will receive trophies similar to the Decorations Contest.

MEMBERS SERVING MEMBERS

If you have a specialty or talent that you would want your neighborhood to know about, we will be glad to list your name, address, contact information and a very short description of your business or craft. There will be no charge but no special wording or art treatment. This is information, not advertising, and a service to all members of HVHA and other residents.
