PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Fellow Residents. It is springtime and the dandelions have come up again. We had a bad winter for snowplowing and we appreciated your patience. We need two new people to serve on the Board, especially a Vice-President and a Treasurer. Joan and Don will be moving to a retirement community this summer. Now is your chance to give it a try and help your neighbors. Have a great summer. Sincerely, Steve

2010 MEMBERSHIP

We invite all residents, owners or renters, to join the Hill Valley Homeowners Association for the new year. Among voluntary homeowners’ associations we are highly respected as one of the largest and most effective in Central Indiana. Please help us stay that way. At this point we have 494 members for 2010. On the insert page is a coupon to be returned with your payment in the enclosed envelope.

NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS

We should all thank our neighbors for helping each other. Several seniors in our neighborhood were having difficulty keeping up with repairs and lawn care. Several of our members volunteered to help these neighbors who are deeply appreciative. What a wonderful example of the excellence and compassion of this Hill Valley community.

We should also celebrate the excellence of our youth. Matt Goelz, a sophomore, was the amazing driver for the Perry Meridian Robotics Team, Cyber Blue, that battled their way to a tiebreaker in the Boilermaker regional competition at Purdue. They clinched second place overall, won the Chairman’s Award, and a trip to the national competition in Atlanta. His family and friends are mighty proud.

As we enter the summer season it seems that commercial vehicles begin to flourish as well as shrubs, trees and grass. Your Board has been working with the new city division of Code Enforcement to get the zoning violations resolved. We have been successful in over fifteen cases ranging from illegal parking of commercial trucks and trailers to overgrown borders and lots. We want to be neighborly but parking commercial vehicles overnight and on weekends is not being kind to your neighbors. Neither is overgrowth that obscures intersections, blocks sidewalks, or makes the neighborhood look unsightly. We try to be considerate of our member before we contact the inspectors but we cannot let continuous violations go unaddressed.

Unleashed dogs are another source of danger and discomfort to our neighbors. Repeat offenders will receive a visit from animal control and may lose their animal in the process. There is no exception under the law and jumping the fence is not an excuse. All animals must be leashed when off the property.

We are very sorry for the death of one of our long-time residents, Julia Greathouse, of Hi-Vu Drive. She and Bill have been mainstays of our association and their home has been a joy of decoration at Christmas.

BOARD VACANCIES

As Steve has already said, there will be two vacancies on the Board by the end of the summer. We have a good time working together at the monthly Board meetings and the Annual Summer Social. There are some tasks that need to be done in between but not overwhelming. It feels good to be able to serve our wonderful community. Please give a few hours a month to our very special neighborhood.

NEW RESIDENTS

We have noticed many new residents moving into our neighborhood. We have contact information on some of you but it is very incomplete and we know you do not like to receive mail addressed to "Current Resident". Please contact Charlie Eldridge, 881-2718, or Steve Scheidler, 881-1558, with the best way for us to address your Newsletter and provide you with a resource guide on the neighborhood.

There are 1100 homes in Hill Valley. Our Homeowners Association provides snow plowing and a quarterly Newsletter to inform everyone what is coming up next, including zoning bulletins. We have an annual picnic for all members that includes a full meal, recreation for the children, and dancing for everybody. We have a website, www.hillvalley.org, where you can find a map of the neighborhood, a monthly calendar, special events and announcements, past Newsletters, and important area phone numbers; plus, alerts on new issues and an e-mail link to notify us of any problems or neighborhood news.

AREA BEAUTIFICATION

In 2010 the HVHA Board will continue the spring, summer and fall lawnscaping contest for our members, complementing our Christmas Decorations Contest, as a way to continue promoting the beautification of our neighborhoods. In the spring the focus will be on bulb flowers and early-blooming shrubs and trees, along with your evergreens. Judging will be in late April or early May. In the summer the focus will be on summer flowers and shrubs. Judging will be late June or early July. Fall flowers and shrubs will be judged in late September or October. We had good weather for both the spring and summer but last year the weather conspired to scuttle our fall judging. First, second and third prizes will be awarded for East and West Hill Valley for each of the seasons. Winners will be recognized on the web site and will receive trophies similar to the Decorations Contest.
