PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Fellow Members, We are in the snow season so please keep the cars off of the streets when snow is
forecast or they may be plowed in. There are 58 miles to plow in a few hours.  For problems please call David Olmstead at 888-5270. Since we pay for the plowing you might contact your non-dues-paying neighbors to pay dues to reduce the freeloading. The 2004 membership form is enclosed - dues are due now. Happy New Year. Steve

INFORMATION FOR NEW RESIDENTS OF HILL VALLEY

There are 1100 homes in Hill Valley. We have grown together over the many years to support a Homeowners Association with a Board of Directors. Joining is only $25. per year and that includes the cost of snow plowing. We have a Crime Watch Organization to keep incidents down to a minimum and a quarterly Newsletter to inform everyone whatıs coming up next. We have an annual picnic which is free to all members of the Hill Valley Homeowners Assn. which includes a full meal, recreation for the children, and dancing for the adults. We have a website, www.hillvalley.org, where you can find our mission statement, a map of the whole neighborhood so you can find where the Crime Watch incidents occurred, a list of all board members, a yearly calendar, past Newsletters, and important area phone numbers.

CRIME WATCH ANNUAL MEETING
FRIEDEN'S
CHURCH OF CHRIST, 8300 S. MERIDIAN
TUESDAY, APRIL 27, 2004 AT 7:00 PM.

The agenda is still being developed. If you have any suggestions, let's hear 'em! We'll go with the flow and discuss any questions from the floor about any of YOUR concerns. If it is something we need to research, please let us know in advance.  Come early and meet other residents. Doors will open at 6:30 PM & the meeting will start promptly at 7 PM.

Kudos for the following:
Fayban and Burn Court is now a four-way stop due to a letter written to Phil Borst by Mike Howe. Sincere thanks to Mike for requesting a traffic survey!

One of our residents was up at 4:30AM Saturday, November 8th. He saw youths knock down a DOT sign. He followed their vehicle, got license plate number & a description of car & called MCSD who investigated. This is how Crime Watch works. Residents see suspicious activity and report it to the Sheriff's Department.

A West Hill Valley Block Captain called a resident and informed him where the dog reported lost to Crime Watch was last seen. Dog reunited with owner.

For your own safety and the peace of mind of drivers, please invest in the proper apparel if you plan to walk or jog in the early morning or evening when it is difficult for a driver to spot you in the road. Light, white, reflective clothing would be a good investment!

For those of you who might wonder how  Crime Watch is organized and might want to be helpful in any way:
East Hill Valley Coordinator Barb Brown - 888-5456
West Hill Valley Coordinator District 1 Joan Smith - 865-7761
West Hill Valley Coordinator District 2 Laurel Schiefelbein -881-8797
West Hill Valley Coordinator District 3 Dave Turo-Shields -865-1674
Under each Coordinator are at least 20-30 Block Captains who will call you if you are on their list of residents of Hill Valley. At the present time one of our Coordinators in West Hill Valley has resigned and needs to be replaced. This is not a hard job. The hardest part is making a few phone calls to start with and then following through when anyone sends word about an incident that has happened. If you have any interest in meeting new people and have about a half hour a month, please call Steve Scheidler, 881-1558, and see how you can help.

NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS

Kail W. Smith, 18, a member of Boy Scout Troop 545, sponsored by Christ United Methodist Church, 8540 US 31 South, has gone on to earn Scouting's highest honor, the Eagle. Kail is a senior at Perry Meridian High School and resident of East Hill Valley. He earned 32 merit badges, served in several leadership positions in his troop and completed a major community service project on the road to earning his Eagle. For his service project, he beautified the shelter area around Christ UMC by securing donations, delivering material and constructing three picnic tables for the church.  He organized nine Scouts and six adult volunteers to help in his project. They cleared and cleaned the grounds, replaced the overgrown shrubs with new, flowering shrubs and added a birdbath, bird houses and water gauges. Kail  secured the lumber for the picnic tables by getting materials donated from the Eagle Creek Home Depot.
The project required more than four months' planning and was finished April 19, 2003.

I have to apologize to a member of HVHA. I took notes on your daughterıs adoption of a child from China and was to put it in this newsletter. Just about that time, I ended up in the hospital and since then I
canıt find the information. If you will call me again, I will include it in next monthıs newsletter. Sincerely, Joan Smith, 865-7761
