The Board appreciated the extraordinary efforts of everyone to beautify our neighborhood for the holiday season. If you saw flashlights pointed at your house or mailbox, we were trying to make sure of your address. Not all homes have numbers on their mailbox or painted on the curb. It was a challenge.

Happy New Year from your Board! We hope you all had a delightful holiday – Christmas, Chanukah or Kwanza – and are off to a joyful 2007.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Happy New Year! Thanks for the beautiful Christmas lighting of our neighborhood. We had many honorable mention as well as the prize winners. It may be snow time soon. Please don’t park on the streets when there is a snowy forecast so the plows can get through. We would appreciate your support as a member for 2007. Ask you neighbor to join, too. Best regards, Steve

POLICE NEWS AND OPEN HOUSE

On Thursday, January 11th from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Major William Benjamin, who is the new commander of the IMPD Metro Southeast District, will be hosting an "Open House." The Open House will be held at IMPD Southeast Headquarters, 1150 S. Shelby St . Please feel free to stop by, meet Major Benjamin and other officers, and learn more about IMPD.

One of our own residents, Daniel Kistner of Jonquil Drive, was recognized as the outstanding Sheriff’s Road Patrol Officer for 2006. Congratulations Dan!

Thank you for your encouragement and support and your cooperation with the local Crime Watch organization. Your vigilance has been very successful to date.

SNOW REMOVAL

We will continue to refine the thoroughness and convenience of snow removal. Please let us know as soon as possible if there is any problem with the service we are receiving from our contractors. Contact the Smiths, 865-7761 or the Scheidlers, 881-1558

2007 MEMBERSHIP

We again invite you to join the Hill Valley Homeowners Association for the new year. Among voluntary homeowners’ associations we are highly respected as the largest in Central Indiana and one of the most effective. Enclosed is a flyer with the 2007 membership information and a coupon to be returned with your payment in the enclosed envelope.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Identity Theft – It happens right here among your neighbors! Checks stolen from mailboxes before the mail is picked up. Phone calls and e-mails asking for confirmation of Social Security numbers, birth dates, drivers license numbers or bank account numbers. All of these requests are bogus! Ask for it in letterform and then check with the institution because some letterheads are also forged. Do not use the phone number on the letterhead but look it up independently. Protect yourself!!

Public Health – Indianapolis is in the forefront of protecting its citizens with dozens of public health programs – food safety, disease prevention, unsafe buildings and grounds, environmental hazards, air and water quality, violence prevention, etc. They invite partnerships with neighborhood groups such as ours to alert them to emerging problems. If you see or hear anything that could be a danger to our community please contact a Board member immediately. We have the contacts to get some attention right away.

Driver Safety – There are a number of intersections in our neighborhood where shrubs or flowers grow so large that they obscure the view of traffic. If you have or plan to have decorative plantings near the curb, please keep them trimmed back. Drive through your own corner to know whether drivers have a clear line-of-sight for oncoming traffic.

AREA BEAUTIFICATION

This year the HVHA Board will continue the spring and summer lawnscaping contest for our members, complementing our Christmas Decorations Contest, as a way to continue promoting the beautification of our neighborhoods. In the spring the focus will be on bulb flowers and early-blooming shrubs and trees, along with your evergreens. Judging will be in late April or early May. In the summer the focus will be on summer flowers and shrubs. Judging will be late June or early July. Last year the weather conspired to scuttle an attempt to judge fall flowering trees and shrubs. Dick Crumb advised that the fall season is very tricky to forecast both in time and quality.

First, second and third prizes will be awarded for East and West Hill Valley for each of the seasons. Winners will be publicly recognized and receive trophies similar to the Decorations Contest.

INFORMATION FOR NEW RESIDENTS OF HILL VALLEY

There are 1100 homes in Hill Valley. We have grown together over the many years to support a Homeowners Association with a Board of Directors. Joining is only $25. per year and that covers the cost of snow plowing and a quarterly Newsletter to inform everyone what is coming up next, including zoning bulletins. We have an annual picnic which is free to all members of the Hill Valley Homeowners Assn. and includes a full meal, recreation for the children, and dancing for everybody. We have a website, www.hillvalley.org, where you can find our mission statement, a map of the whole neighborhood, a list of all board members, a monthly calendar, special events and announcements, past Newsletters, and important area phone numbers.
