PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Fellow Residents. It’s summer again so beware of the different con artists that are out and about. Do not let anyone in your house that you do not know. If someone tries to force their way in, call 911 immediately. We also have some kids that don’t know what to do with their free time. If their stunts get out of hand call 327-3811 or 911 if they get really rowdy. See you at the picnic. Sincerely, Steve

PICNIC VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Could you please give ˝ hour of your time to help at the annual picnic on August 8th? We need help to: 1. Keep the food tables stocked from the kitchen; 2. Serve hot dogs, brats and steaks; 3. Serve soft drinks, wine and beer; and 4. Help with check-in and door prize tickets. Food service starts at 5:30 and ends at 7:00. Pick your time and call Steve Scheidler, 881-1558.

NEIGHBORS HELPING NEIGHBORS

While most of us are healthy and busy, some of our neighbors are not so fortunate. We have elderly and disabled residents who are having trouble with household chores. The Board would like to have us reach out to those neighbors but we can’t do it alone. Board members Frank Hogan and Don Smith agreed to coordinate a Helping Hands program to match up volunteers with those needing help. Please help us in two ways: 1. Let us know who among us could use some help and what kind, and 2. Let us know if you can give an hour or two to help a neighbor. Please call Frank at 888-6540 or Don at 865-7761.

CRIME WATCH NEWS

Even though we have No Solicitation signs at every entrance there have been several reports of burglar alarm and vacuum cleaner solicitors. They may be "casing" us for later burglary. No matter how nice they appear to be, please call the Police Department immediately, 327-3811. Until the police reports are phoned in, there is nothing we can do to stop them. Also, be sure to lock all windows when you leave the house.

Paulette Clay is still waiting for your call to help revitalize the Crime Watch Program in Hill Valley. We need coordinators for each block of houses so alerts can be quickly passed on to everybody concerned. A recent major burglary may have been prevented if we had been on our toes with Crime Watch. This is another instance where we need to really help each other and keep our neighborhood in good shape. Please call Paulette at 889-3506 to discuss what you could do.

ALERTS

IPL Tree Trimming -The Indianapolis Power & Light Company has a three-year cycle of trimming tree limbs away from the power lines. This summer the IPL will be trimming in East Hill Valley and West Hill Valley south of Buffalo Drive/Mellowood. They will notify you by mail at least twice.

Pipeline Inspection - Texas Eastern Products Pipeline Co (TEPPCO) may begin in September to inspect its underground petroleum products pipeline that runs under a 50 foot easement at the rear of lots on Mellowood Dr, W Ralston Rd and Royal Meadow Dr just east of Railroad Rd. They will be assessing if trees and structures (accessory buildings) may pose a danger to the pipe. Tree roots can penetrate the protective coating of the pipe and even the pipe itself and high winds causing a mature tree to fall could damage it. Actual clearing is projected to start in 2009. TEPPCO agents will contact affected lot owners before assessment begins. TEPPCO has told the Board Attorney that it will work with the owners and the HVHA to limit the impacts of the assessment and clearing. We will post on our website further information as we receive it.
