THOUGHTS FROM THE MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE

We now have warm weather but this has been a tough winter with the prolonged cold weather and several snows that required snow removal. According to the HVHA treasurer, we were just about to run out of funds and it is well that we raised the dues to $30 per family. For those of you who have sent in your dues, thank you. For those of you who have not sent in your dues, please do so. There have been a few families who have sent in an additional amount in their checks because we have had a hard winter; for those families, we wish to express our heartfelt thanks.

Why do we need all the information we are asking for when you pay your dues? Of course, the name and address is to make sure we credit the proper home as current members. We ask for the e-mail address in order to contact you about a question without interrupting your busy day with a phone call. Many members do not have an e-mail address so we need the phone number in that case and also if we need to discuss an issue with you. The number of adults and children is to be able to project the needs for the Summer Social. The check number and date is for a cross reference in an attempt to keep our records accurate.

NEW TRASH CANS FOR WEST HILL VALLEY

The city is distributing the new 96-gallon trash containers to all residents of West Hill Valley who are on the city trash collection routes. Those on Republic routes will have to wait for another round. For those who are handicapped and cannot set out those containers, contact the Department of Public Works at 241-1352 to flag your address for assistance.

ZONING VIOLATIONS

For situations involving parking or other violations of the zoning laws which occur on the weekends, e.g. work trucks and trailers, please contact a Board Member. There is a new number we can use to request a weekend inspector.

SECURITY AND SAFETY ISSUES

Scooters, ATV’s and Go-Karts – Parents, please help your children respect the law and your neighbors. No matter how much fun they are, ATV’s and Go-Karts are illegal on all streets and sidewalks. They can be used only on your own property. Violations can be reported by anyone by calling 911. Motor scooters and mopeds are legal only if the driver is age 15 or over and has a valid drivers license or a new Indiana identification card. Police patrols are stopping young riders.

Garage and Driveway Safety – With the current economic climate, theft is too tempting when property is left unattended. We are our own worst enemy when we leave our garage door open and go somewhere else or leave pocket books, computers, or cell phones on the car seat and forget they are there. Please don’t make crime easy for those who are watching or walking by and see the opportunity.

NEW USE OF 911

In our community meetings with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department we have been advised that all calls about suspicious activity, traffic or safety problems, or emergencies can be made to 911. It no longer is confined to life-threatening emergencies or criminal behavior in progress.

NEIGHBORHOOD AWARENESS NETWORK

Volunteers are still needed for our new Neighborhood Awareness Network. There is so much we can do to help each other. We cannot do it without your support. Please consider what role you can play in our NAN – Neighborhood Awareness Network and see Paulette Clay at our Annual Picnic, call her at 889-3506 or send an e-mail to paulette.clay@att.net to start receiving email notification about the program.

TOXIC WASTE DISPOSAL

Perry Township provides a location for disposing of toxic waste which includes not only chemicals but also computer displays and other electronics. It is open from 9 to 2 on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays every month behind the Perry Township government center on the north side of Thompson Road just west of Madison.
