HILL VALLEY ANNUAL MEETING IS MONDAY, OCTOBER 20TH

7:OO PM, FRIEDENS UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST

MARK YOUR CALENDARS!  Are you willing to spend a few hours per month helping your neighbors in Hill Valley? You don't have to be an officer or chair a committee, just help share the workload. The board meets once a month on the third Monday for two hours. Board members help with neighborhood projects and answer questions from residents- that could take a couple more hours in a month. If we share the workload, nobody gets burned out. We need three new board members and volunteers to assist on several projects:

Researching streetlighting options

Maintenance-free signs

Welcoming new neighbors

Maintenance of the islands

            Block representatives for Crime Watch

Solutions to speeding

Newsletter folding and mailing

Seniors assistance

Monitoring vacant houses

Helping with the web site

You may nominate yourself for the board but if you nominate someone else, you must have their permission. Please come to the meeting and be a part of the process of strengthening our neighborhood and serving each other. Let your voice and vote be heard.

Board of Directors Meeting Dates

As members, you are welcome to attend these meetings and voice your thoughts.  If you would like to be included on the agenda, please call the HVHA President.   The Board meets the 3rd Monday of every month (except December) generally at St. Barnabas church at 7:30 p.m. The first 20 minutes are devoted to grievances, etc., before the business meeting continues.  Please be prepared, as there is limited time.  Dates for 2003-4 are as follows:

Nov 17  Jan19  Feb 16  Mar 15  Apr 19  May 17  Jun 21  Jul 19  Aug 16  Sep 20  Oct 18  Nov 15

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

The sun is setting on my third term as president and as I reflect on the accomplishments during my watch I am proud of the present and past board members for having cared enough to allow me to be their president. I have always believed that, if given the tools, responsibility and accountability, people will drive the project to a positive conclusion.

I have always accepted responsibility for what was done by the board but always paid tribute to the board members who made the effort. The board members and countless volunteers have gotten the kudos passed on to them and I readily accepted the rocks as they were thrown. I am thankful that not that many rocks have been thrown.

Thanks to all of you who supported the board during my tenure. Thanks to my present and past board members and thank you to my family for supporting my desire to serve. God Bless you all.

SUMMER SOCIAL VOLUNTEERS

Thanks to all the following volunteers who made our recent Summer Social the best attended picnic ever, in spite of the competition: Dorothy Scheidler, John Scheib, Vince Raja, Bob Evans, Pat and Martha Vanbuskirk, Randy Ezell, Theresa Bradley, Ed Kiesel, Ron Hunt, Chris Mazur, Don Smith, Jerry and Nora Brown, Bryan Finke, and Board members. We hope we recognized everybody who helped. Please let us know if we missed you.

CHRISTMAS DECORATION CONTEST

Be thinking how you want to decorate your home on the outside for Christmas - will it be Religious, Elegant, or To a Child's Eyes? Those are the three themes the judges will use during their drive through the second week of December. Be sure to have your lights on and be a member of the Association. There will be prizes for each category and a grand prize.

TAKE CARE OF YOUR DOGS

Last June as President of Hill Valley Homeowners Association I was asked to investigate an incident where one owner’s animal supposedly killed another owner’s animal. I was informed that the offending dog was a “Trained Guard Dog” and this obviously concerned me (I later found out that this animal was NOT a trained guard dog.) I called the Indianapolis Animal Care and Control Agency and found that there are specific rules regarding the ownership of “Trained Guard Dogs”.

The web site is  http://www.indygov.org/dps/accd/ordinance/ordinances.htm Articles I. through V. apply to owner responsibility, requirements, and actions that can be taken. It makes for very enlightening reading. The bottom line of the ordinances is that if you own a pet you must keep them licensed, make sure their shots are updated, and in general provide care for them. Additionally you may not let them run loose. If you are identified as the owner you can be fined or cited into court. If you own a licensed, trained guard dog YOU MUST REPORT THAT FACT and protect the public from the dog. There is absolutely no excuse for allowing such an animal to run loose.

Should you as a homeowner have issues with animals running loose you may contact Indianapolis Animal Care & Control (327-1397). If you wish to remain anonymous YOU must request that.

BOATS, TRAILERS, ETC.

You need to know that you may not leave boats, hauling trailers, or travel trailers unhooked and parked on the street. Not only does this situation pose a traffic and safety hazard but it is illegal.  All motorized vehicles must be licensed, in running condition, and insured. If it is not, you as the owner can be cited and/or the vehicle can be impounded.

SHERIFF'S ALERT

A friendly reminder for all residents of Hill Valley Homeowners Association area. Please be forewarned there will be on-going, random sheriff patrols with the intention to cite traffic violators, observe crime, and round up loose animals, Heed this warning and tell the teenage drivers they should be especially careful because they can lose their driving privileges at school

HALLOWEEN ALERT

Halloween is fast upon us so please be careful. That night there will be lots of kiddies out, hopefully just getting treated.

GARAGE SALE

Thanks to everyone who participated in the garage sales.  There were many in both East and West Hill Valley. Please remove your sale signs from the neighborhood as soon as possible following the sales.

SPEEDING

Many suggestions have been made to reduce speeding along Hill Valley Drive. Sheriff monitoring has not been effective. Stop signs, speed bumps, television cameras have all been suggested. We have a board project to consider the options. Please volunteer if you have an interest.
