7:OO PM, ST. BARNABAS CHURCH, 8300 S RAHKE RD
MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND NOTE THE NEW LOCATION
! This year the annual meeting of the membership of HVHA will elect two new board members and hear reports on the progress of our community service activities. Please come to the meeting and be a part of the process of strengthening our neighborhood and serving each other. Let your voice and vote be heard. Nominations may be made by a member for another member for the board positions. The person nominated must be present and willing to accept the nomination and the position, if elected. Proxy votes are not permitted. There are a number of activities for which we could use volunteers. These include welcoming new residents, removing litter and weeds from the islands, newsletter folding and mailing, monitoring vacant houses, move-ins and move-outs, and helping with the web site. If you would like to volunteer for any of these projects, no matter how infrequently, please let us know during the meeting or leave your name with Steve Scheidler.
As members, you are welcome to attend the Board meetings and voice your thoughts. If you would like to be included on the agenda, please call the HVHA President. The Board meets the 3rd Monday of every month (except December) generally at St. Barnabas church at 7:30 p.m. The first 20 minutes are devoted to issues from members before the business meeting continues. Please be prepared, as there is limited time.
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Fellow Residents, The winter season is approaching very fast. If you have a sewer cover on your lot, please remove the leaves. Don’t forget the Annual Membership Meeting at St. Barnabas on Oct 17. We need two new Board Members. When snow is forecast, please do not park your cars on the street. It prevents us from properly plowing our streets. There are a few courts in the neighborhood that have no members in HVHA. They will not be plowed this winter. Please note the changes for the Christmas Decoration Contest. Sincerely, Steve
IMPORTANT TAX NEWS
The State of Indiana has established an amnesty period from September 15 to November 15, 2005. During this period any individual taxpayer or business may pay back taxes owed to the State without paying any penalty or interest. You must obtain an amnesty number and an
application for amnesty. The best way to do that is by calling 1-888-398-6729 with your taxpayer identification number (Social Security or EIN). The web site is unreliable for obtaining this type of service. It does have a pretty good Frequently Asked Questions section. You can get there as follows: http://www.in.gov/dor/amnesty/faq.html Call board member Don Smith if you have any questions or concerns – 865-7761.
NEW CATEGORIES & PRIZES FOR THE CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS CONTEST
The holiday season will be upon us very soon and Hill Valley Homeowners will be decorating their houses for the Annual HVHA Christmas Decoration Contest. This year we will have more prizes for you. First, Second and Third prizes will be awarded in each of three categories: Through the Eyes of a Child; The Reason for the Season; and Most Original and Artistic. As before, over and above those prizes there will be a Grand Prize for all of Hill Valley.
No one can win first prize in the same category two years in a row. Grand Prize winners cannot repeat for two years. All prize winners must be members of the HVHA. The judges will drive through the neighborhood the second full week of December, December 12-18. That week please leave your lights on until 10:00 p.m. each evening.

GARAGE SALE PARTICIPANTS
Thanks to all of you who participated in the June and August Garage Sales. They seemed to be successful for you and many visitors appreciated the maps and the friendly directions. The Garage Sales for 2006 will be : June 8, 9 and 10 and August 17, 18 and 19.
STREET REPAIRS & PARKING
If your street has sewer problems, potholes or other damages that have not been repaired, call the Mayor’s Action Center, 327-4622, to report the situation and be sure to get an Action Number so we can follow up if it doesn’t get done. Please remember that commercial vehicles, trailers, boats, and RV’s may not be parked overnight on our streets. They can be tagged and towed.
INFORMATION FOR NEW RESIDENTS OF HILL VALLEY
There are over 1100 homes in Hill Valley. We have grown together over the many years to support a Homeowners Association with a Board of Directors. Joining is only $25 per year and that provides for the cost of snow plowing our streets. We publish a quarterly Newsletter to inform everyone what¹s coming up next including information from the local Crime Watch organization with whom we cooperate. We have an annual picnic for all current members of the Hill Valley Homeowners Assn. At our website - www.hillvalley.org - you can find our mission statement, a map of the whole neighborhood, a list of all board members, a yearly calendar, past Newsletters, and important area phone numbers. The dues year is from January to December. We provide envelopes in the January newsletter to allow you to mail your dues in at the beginning of the year. This helps us pay for snow plowing when needed.
MEMBERS SERVING MEMBERS
The Board has approved creating a new section in the Newsletter, "Members Serving Members". If you have a specialty or talent that you would want your neighborhood to know about, we will be glad to list your name, address, contact information and a description in 12 words or less of your business or craft. There will be no charge but no special wording or art treatment. This is information, not advertising, and a service to all members.
