HILL VALLEY ANNUAL MEMBERS MEETING IS MONDAY, OCTOBER 20TH

7:OO PM AT THE FRIEDEN’S CHURCH

PLEASE NOTE THE ABOVE DATE AND LOCATION! This year for the annual meeting of the membership of HVHA we have invited the Perry Township Trustee and the leader of the gang task force of the Metropolitan Police Department to bring us up to date on issues affecting our neighborhood, such as the merger of the fire departments. Please come, meet your neighbors and become informed.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Fellow Residents. Frieden’s Church has agreed to team with us in our Neighbors Helping Neighbors program. If you are elderly, disabled or housebound, we can help you getting to the grocery, the doctor’s or with inside and outside chores. Please don’t be embarrassed. Call one of the numbers listed below. It will soon be leaf time again. Please clean out the curbs and storm drains so we do not have more flooding in our streets. Sincerely, Steve

CIVILITY MAKES US ALL BETTER – Reports have come to the Board that yard signs are being vandalized and stolen. We may disagree with our neighbor but we need to respect each others right to make our opinions known. Let’s make sure civility is foremost among our Hill Valley families.

NEIGHBORS HELPING NEIGHBORS

If you (or someone you know in Hill Valley) cannot do yard or other outside work as you used to do, if you could use inside help such as cleaning or day care, or if you need to get to a doctor, dentist, drug store or grocery, please call us at 888-6540 or 865-7761. WE WILL KEEP YOUR REQUEST CONFIDENTIAL! We have a number of Hill Valley residents who volunteered for these services for their neighbors. We thank them for their community spirit! You can also e-mail us at hvhoa@hillvalley.org

VERY SUCCESSFUL ANNUAL PICNIC

We had 473 attendees at the annual picnic and everyone seemed to have a good time. The new children’s rides were very popular and the food was highly complimented. Many thanks to the neighborhood volunteers who helped us make this an enjoyable event. Special thanks to the boys and leaders of the Scout Troop who worked all evening for us. This year the board invited Veterans of Valor to give us an opportunity to support our wounded veterans. Thanks to all who gave to this very worthy cause.

CARING FOR OUR NEIGHBORS

Many of you have seen the large poster asking us to Pray for Summer Dawn. This relates to one of

our own Hill Valley families who have had a terrible tragedy. Seventeen year old Summer Dawn Scarbrough of 8218Union St suffered an accidental overdose of medication and has been in a coma since December. She requires full time medical care that is putting a great strain on the family. A benefit dinner will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, October 4 at the Cottage Street Full Gospel Church, 840 Cottage Ave, 46203 with singing to follow at 6 p.m.

ALERTS

Door-to-Door Solicitations – There have been several solicitations recently, vacuum cleaners, security systems and home improvement. Solicitations are prohibited in our neighborhood and legal signs have been posted. Please contact the Police Department immediately if anyone comes to your door. The number is 327-3811. You may save a neighbor from being scammed.

Pipeline Inspection - Texas Eastern Products Pipeline Co (TEPPCO) may begin to inspect its underground petroleum products pipeline that runs under a 30 foot easement at the rear of lots on Mellowood Dr, W Ralston Rd and Royal Meadow Dr just east of Railroad Rd. TEPPCO agents will contact affected lot owners before assessment begins. They promised to work with the owners and the HVHA to limit the impacts of the assessment and clearing.

Zoning Violations – We helped to shut down illegal operations at 8635 and 8629 S. Meridian St. The current illegal tree-trimming business at 8100 S Meridian was publicized in Jane Lichtenberg’s column in the Indianapolis Star and both the owner and the landlord have been cited into court. We will continue to report illegal parking of commercial vehicles and trailers. The violators know who they are.

2008 EVENTS CALENDAR

The next Newsletter will be sent out the first week of January, 2009. The Board will meet once more this year, on November 17 at St. Barnabas Church at 7:30 p.m. The 2008 Annual Meeting of members will be 7 PM, Monday, October 20, 2008 at Frieden’s Church.

The annual Holiday Decorations Contest will be judged during the second or third week of December. A postcard will be sent to all members after Thanksgiving with the exact schedule.

NEW RESIDENTS

We have noticed many new residents moving into our neighborhood. We have contact information on some of you but it is very incomplete and we know you do not like to receive mail addressed to "Current Resident". Please contact Charlie Eldridge, 881-2718, or Joan Smith, 865-7761, with the best way for us to address your correspondence and provide you with an information packet on the neighborhood.

Greg & Cara West are new neighbors in East Hill Valley. Cara would like to go walking 3 times a week in the evening for exercise and a chance to meet new people. Call her at 887-6184 to meet and walk.

MEMBERS SERVING MEMBERS

If you have a specialty or talent that you would want your neighborhood to know about, we will be glad to list your name, address, contact information and a description in 12 words or less of your business or craft. There will be no charge but no special wording or art treatment. This is information, not advertising, and a service to all members of HVHA and other residents. You must be a member of the HVHA.

We would welcome suggestions, comments and other newsworthy items that you feel would be of interest to your neighbors. The HVHA does reserve the right to edit such submittals for clarity and conciseness. Please submit your articles to any HVHA board member and we will try to publish it as submitted.
